Foreign Students in the US, Nordic Resettlement, Taiwan

Autumn marks the beginning of the school year in many parts of the world. In response to growing demand from our readers, we have collected some key articles from earlier Source issues into two easy-to-download packets. Together, these packets highlight the important policy debates and data challenges shaping the migration field. They are especially useful for the classroom and beyond:
  • Selected Readings on Migration, Refugees, and Integration (June 2002-August 2003)
  • Data Insights on Key Migration Topics (June 2002-August 2003)
Also in this issue:

Mette Honoré, Senior Legal Advisor to the Danish Refugee Council, outlines the efforts of Nordic countries to provide safe harbor to refugees.

Rob Paral of Roosevelt University's Institute for Metropolitan Affairs examines the key role of recent immigrants in one of the United States' largest cities, Chicago.

MPI's Kevin O'Neil takes a close look at how Taiwan has reaped economic benefits from high-skilled migration.

Christine Inglis explores a proposal by an Australian Senate committee to grant special seasonal access to Australia for agricultural workers from the Pacific Islands.

Our Spotlight this month by MPI's Maia Jachimowicz looks at the large foreign student and exchange visitor population in the US and outlines recent policy developments affecting them.

MPI's Joanne van Selm updates our Netherlands country profile based on recent events.

Our Policy Beat by MPI's Maia Jachimowicz outlines the latest developments affecting US migration policy, including changes to visa rules for foreign travelers and border students.

Next month look for a Special Issue on Integration, with articles by Rinus Penninx, Demetri Papademetriou, Karen Jacobsen, Brian Ray, and Sarah Spencer.
